Meeting Rich Roll & 72 Hours in West Palm Beach at Eudemonia

Plus: The Moment I Realized I Belong Here Too

Meeting Rich Roll & 72 Hours in West Palm Beach at Eudemonia

Kate and I flew to Palm Beach last week for the Eudemonia Summit; three days of talks, workouts, conversations, and an expo featuring 180 of the top brands in men’s health, wellness, longevity, performance, and yes, even psychedelics.

I was there to moderate a panel on men’s health that I'd pitched to the founder last year. And while menopause has gone mainstream, and mainstage;  men are still on the sidelines and break out rooms. In fact, they scheduled our panel, right up against Halle Berry & Gabby Reece; who were talking about what else…Midlife.

Note to the programmers: if you want to attract more heterosexual midlife men, don’t put the one panel directly for men, at the exact same time as two of the most beautiful middle aged women on the planet. That’s the room we want to be in.

I shared the stage with Dr. Gregory Scott Brown, Dr. Kwado Kyeremanteng, former NFL star Julius Thomas, and Sean Wells. These guys have become friends, mentors, and advisors. We had an hour and we could’ve gone for three. I’ll share more about the panel and the participants in this week’s Viewpoint column, but one conclusion I draw is that no matter what, men need to prioritize the basics.

The thing is the thing.

You get up each day and work your plan.
Exercise. Sleep. Recover. Be a good husband, father, friend. Be intentional about what you put on and in your body.
Produce more than you consume.
Avoid noise and negativity.

I spent the weekend surrounded by some of the brightest minds in health, mindset, longevity, and biohacking, and the takeaway is so simple:

There’s no magic pill, trip, speech, hack, or guru who has it all figured out. There are  a lot of good people trying to live better lives; and a lot of opportunists trying to sell you their version of “the way.”

Choose wisely.

The highlight of these events is always who you meet.  I get up early to exercise because it’s never failed that I meet someone great in the gym. There were cold plunges set up and that’s where I got to meet Rich Roll; one of my inspirations.

It was a truly special feeling when I introduced myself and he said “I know who you are” and we chatted about his recent back surgery, our XPT experiences and his recent appearance on Mel Robbins’ podcast.

There was a speakers lounge that had great breakfast and lunches so naturally that's where I ate. I met Gabrielle Bernstein, who then invited me and Kate to her talk. Ran into Gabby Reece; who’s just the best. And one of my all time favorites Kelly Starrett, the original supple leopard.

I wanted to meet Mark Sisson, so I signed up and joined the walk he was hosting one morning and he was great. These names may not mean all that much to you, but to me, these are some of my rock stars. Individuals who’ve made my life better.

And I belong right there with them. It’s taken me a while to be able to say that and feel that, but it’s true.

I got to lead a three-mile GORUCK Sunday morning before my book signing and  the event wrapped up.

Kate and I had dinner with Jon, our Editor-In-Chief, and his wife Stephanie.  It’s great that we’re friends on top of working together, that our wives got to meet and we all had a great time. So much so that we didn't take a single photo. There were no breaks in the conversation, constant laughs, and they’re really quality people. These are the moments that matter.

We went to Restoration Hardware’s rooftop restaurant. In fact, Kate and I ate there 3 days in a row. It’s that good.  Pro-Tip: Get the Caviar & Chips & the burger.

The full-circle moment came when I bumped into Dr. Kwado outside our hotel.  He asked me:

“What would a win look like for you here?”

And I thought about for a moment…

And we hit it:

A strong panel that opened doors for bigger opportunities next year. Connecting and collaborating with leaders in the field. Growing the Midlife Male community and message. Finding potential locations for future retreats. Meeting aligned, high-quality brand partners. Sharing the experience with my wife, Jon and Stephanie. Being fully present with inspiring people. Texting our boys about all of it.

And underneath all of this lies one simple truth:

Most of us already know what to do.

We’re just not doing it.

So here’s the challenge I’ll leave you with:

Stop waiting for perfect conditions.

Stop chasing hacks.

Stop outsourcing responsibility.

Stop sitting still.

Do the thing.

Take the action.

Be the man who follows through.

Your health, your relationships, your work, your purpose…

All of it changes when you do.

The middle of life isn’t the beginning of the end;  it’s the beginning of your next and best phase.

Thank you for being here.

Thank you for showing up.

Now go do the thing.

This isn’t your average squeeze bottle from the grocery store. This stuff is honey with superpowers; pure, high-grade Manuka packed with nutrients that actually support immunity, digestion, and overall health.

It’s hands-down the best honey in the world. If you care about your immune health (and if you’re in midlife, you should), this is a must. I’ve been using it everywhere: on my pancakes, protein waffles, Greek yogurt, fruit, in smoothies—it adds the perfect touch of sweetness without the crash.

In health,
